Why now

Google gave you a free website. Then it switched it off.

Until March 2024, every verified profile came with a one-page site on a business.site address. Google pulled them. Those links now go nowhere.

Most owners found out the slow way — a customer mentioned the link was dead, or the phone just got quieter. If your van, your cards or your old ads still show a business.site address, they point at nothing.

Your listing still matters. But it’s Google’s page, showing what Google decides. A website is the bit you own — and somewhere a link can safely point for as long as you’re trading. Read what changed

The process

Three steps. None of them is “find a web guy”.

Most website builders start you at nothing. This one starts at your listing — because building a small business site is mostly collecting information you have already written down, and you wrote it on Google.

  1. Connect your listing

Sign in with the Google account that runs your listing and pick your business. Hours, address, phone, services, photos and reviews come straight across. Nothing to retype. Nothing to upload.

  2. Pick a look

Six designs, each built for a different kind of business. Choose one, pick a colour, reword anything that doesn't sound like you. Change your mind later and your content stays put.

  3. Put it live

Publish to a free subdomain in one tap, or point a domain you already own at it. Hosting, SSL and the sitemap are handled. Then add the link to your Google listing so people can actually find it.

The designs

Six designs. Six kinds of business.

Not one page in six colours. A plumber and a patisserie need different things up front, so these differ in layout, type and pace.

By trade

Your trade decides what goes first

An emergency plumber gets found at 11pm by someone who needs a number, now. A dental practice gets found by someone weighing up three clinics. Same builder — different page.

What you get

All in. Not sold back to you as extras.

The things a local site actually needs are usually the things that cost more somewhere else, or turn up as a plugin you then keep alive.

Being found

What a website can do — and what it can’t

Nobody can put you top of Google. Local ranking comes mostly from your listing, your reviews, and whether your details match everywhere they appear. What a site can do is stop being the reason you lose.

The alternatives

Wix and Squarespace are good. They’re also a weekend.

A general website builder hands you a blank canvas and every decision that comes with it. Great if design is the job. If your job is boilers or teeth, the blank canvas is the problem.

A general builder

Hundreds of templates, a drag-and-drop editor, and every word to write yourself. Powerful. Most people stall on the empty homepage.

This

A website builder that starts from what your Google listing already says, in about a minute, and keeps up with it after. Narrow on purpose.

An agency

A good site and a real invoice. Plus a wait — and a phone call every time your hours change.

Pricing

Free to build. Pay when you go live.

Take it all the way to a finished site and look at it on your phone first. Nothing’s charged until you want it public.

Questions

Before you start

Do I need a Google Business Profile?

Yes — the listing is what the site gets built from. If you haven't got one it's free to set up, and worth doing whether or not you build a website, because it's what puts you on Maps.

Google shut down my free business.site website. Is this the replacement?

It covers the same job and quite a bit more. Google retired the free Business Profile sites in March 2024 and those addresses now go nowhere. This rebuilds the same information as a proper site, on a domain you own — the part the free one never gave you.

How long does it actually take?

The first draft takes about a minute. Most people spend another ten or fifteen changing wording and picking a colour before they publish. You don't have to do it in one go — your draft saves as you work.

Can I use my own domain name?

Yes, on any paid plan. Point a domain you already own at the site and it serves over HTTPS with the certificate sorted for you. On the free plan you get a profiletoweb.com address, and you can move to your own later without rebuilding.

What happens when I change my hours on Google?

Refresh the site and the details come through again. That's the point of building from your listing instead of a blank page — the information you already keep up to date in one place stops going stale in another.

Will this get me to the top of Google?

No, and be wary of anyone who says it will. What it does is remove the technical reasons a small site loses — clean markup, structured data, a sitemap, fast pages on a phone, reviews as readable text. The rest is your listing, your reviews and consistent details across the web.

Can I change the design, or am I stuck with it?

Six designs, each with colour options, and every word is editable. You can switch design after publishing and keep your content. It's deliberately not a blank canvas with a thousand settings — that's what makes it a minute rather than a weekend.

Do I need to know anything technical?

No. Nothing to host, no plugin to install, no theme to update, no certificate to renew. If you can manage your Google listing, you can manage this.

What does it cost?

Building it and looking at it is free, no card. Publishing starts at $7.99 a month, and Pro is $19.99 for more pages, analytics and faster support. Prices show in rupees in India.

Can I cancel? What happens to my site?

Cancel whenever. The site stays up until the end of the period you've paid for. If you're on your own domain, that domain is yours — point it wherever you like afterwards.

What if I get stuck?

Email support on every plan, faster on Pro, plus a library of guides on the Google side of things — verifying, categories, suspensions, reviews — not just how to drive the builder.

You’ve already written it. This just puts it somewhere.

Connect your Google listing and see what comes out. If you don’t like it, you’ve lost a minute.
